The quality of a publication or data of experiments depending on three things.
1. Idea: This is the main base of a publication. University professors, scientists and group leaders postulates strong ideas to be investigate by their teams.
2. Manpower: The PhD scholar, post doctoral fellows, project assistants, and students are the main workers which works on an idea generated by a supervisor. Only highly skilled manpower will work with a good supervisor or good idea and would get some good publications.
3. Infrastructure: The tools, facility, techniques, library and Internet are the major infrastructure requires for implementation of the research proposal based in the idea generated by the supervisor.
These three crucial factors decide the overall growth of the scientific research. So if students wants to build a career in life science research, they must get admited to a PhD course in a good research institute having above mentioned things.
Also a good publication must frequently cited by researchers in their publications. (Not the self citation.) If it is not getting any citations even after two three years then it was just a report for some personnel benefits(!). There is no sense to publish non-citable papers. It must be highly citated.
